Republican Lt. Governor nominee John Wahl is calling for increased transparency and local control over data center projects, following the Lowndes County Commission’s approval of a long-term tax break for an Nvidia-backed facility.

The commission approved a 20-year tax abatement for the project. The abatement is estimated to be worth $2.79 billion over two decades, according to the information provided. The approval came shortly before residents could voice their concerns.

Wahl’s call focuses on how data center projects are handled, with transparency and local control as the stated priorities. The available information does not include further details about the specific steps he is proposing, or how he would seek to change local decision-making.

It also does not specify when the commission approved the abatement, when residents were scheduled to speak, or what concerns they intended to raise.
